Safety rests at the forefront of many Ford designs; yet one devastating statistic still exists: the passenger vehicle occupant fatality rate during dark hours is about three times higher than in the daytime. Stronger headlamps, greater driver environmental awareness, a slew of accident sensory systems--all help better steer you through the night, though Ford believes it can do even more.

Atop of its latest autonomous innovations, Ford engineers are sending driver-less Ford Fusion Hybrids through a lonely Arizona desert--both in the dark and without headlights. The mission: See if Ford’s autonomous driving system can effectively maneuver through even the darkest conditions.

Equipped with Ford’s LiDAR system, the autonomous Ford Fusion Hybrid uses three modes of sensors and high-resolution 3D maps to function without headlights.

Though this advanced system isn’t available just yet, the already astoundingly safe new 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid is. Ensure you aren’t part of a statistic by joining us here at Waxahachie Ford, where we are more than happy to help serve the greater Midlothian and Ennis community from our prime Waxahachie location.
