Serving Waxahachie, Midlothian, and Red Oak, TX

If you’re in the market for a high-tech, comfortable American sedan, the 2017 Ford Fusion and the 2017 Chevrolet Impala should top your list. Both benefit from superior build quality, roomy interiors and versatile options. Although they share many traits, closer inspection and test drives will reveal that the Ford Fusion is a better car and a better value.

Which Car Has More Power?

The 2017 Ford Fusion SE EcoBoost provides more power than the 2017 Chevrolet Impala LS does, yet the Ford lists for less than the Chevy, a substantial savings. The Ford delivers 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque from its 2.0L Turbo-4 engine. The Chevy is only able to muster 196 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque from its 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. Both sedans utilize 6-speed automatic transmissions, put only the Fusion has SelectShift and a new rotary shifter. As an extra bonus, the Ford comes standard with AWD, whereas the Chevy is a FWD car. In addition, the Fusion wheels are painted alloy, versus steel wheels on the Impala.

Entertainment Differences

Both the Fusion SE and the Impala LS come standard with 6-speaker audio systems. However, the Ford standard stereo includes a CD player that the Chevy does not. Furthermore, only the Fusion SE gives you the option to upgrade your stereo unit. That upgrade is a Premium 390W Surround Sound System from Sony with 12 speakers (including a subwoofer) HD Radio and MP3. The Fusion also comes with Sync technology that can be upgraded to Sync 3, featuring advanced entertainment and communications features, enhanced voice recognition, improved performance, Sync Connect smartphone-enabled features and a larger 8-inch LCD touch screen.

Differences in Features

There are several features that are available on the Fusion SE but not available on the Impala LS, only on costlier Impala trims. One such feature is Voice-Activated Navigation System with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. The 2017 version has improved responsiveness and is more user-friendly, with swipe, zoom and pinch screen movements. When coupled with Sirius XM, you get more than 150 channels of commercial free entertainment. Another exclusive SE option is leather seating, part of the SE Luxury Package that also provides leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, heated front seats, 10-way power driver’s seat with 3 memory settings, 4-way power passenger seat, fog lamps and upgraded exterior mirrors. The package also adds warm interior accents, chrome window moldings as well as an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
